The viral video of a Black couple getting engaged and married in the same day is the most beautiful and real expression of love I’ve seen in a while. My first reaction was “Wow, how sweet.” That was from one short clip. Then, my research instincts kicked in to search on Instagram the hash tag and watch ALL the clips, back to back. I saw a man plan and execute the boldest expression of his love for his woman. I loved how she worshiped her God – caught the Holy Ghost even, shouted and stopped to give God thanks that the man she wanted to marry for two years was finally showing her how much he loved and wanted her.
A few other things to highlight:
– Both have kids. What an amazing example they are setting; to model what LOVE does when it’s real.
– He coordinated and orchestrated everything for HER. He had all the elements set that he knew she would want. From her family being in attendance, the venue, color themes, rings, etc.
– More than anything, I was touched by their constant reference to GOD. It’s clear; from her vows, to him writing that he loved her love for God and their powerful prayer for God’s blessings on their union that this couple were dating with purpose and wanted to have a God-centered life together.
Personally, I’m way too particular and my husband is not detail oriented enough to have planned something like this. But, the point is, God and Love were at the heart of #ForeverDuncan. I hope that they inspire men who love their women but aren’t quite there yet to step up and commit. He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD (Proverbs 18:22). I wish them a lifetime of God’s favor.
I was informed by my wife that there was a cute proposal that was going viral online…
So as we traveled to work, we both watched the video…. At first, I thought it was a click bait video that some company made to make me want to buy something… like some of those you see for travel sites.
As I continued to watch and take in the video, I was happy that Mr. Duncan was able to successfully execute his proposal. I know for a fact that I could not have done all this. I truly believe in the biblical verse “Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing”.
I could see that he loved his fiancé, Sherell so much that he planned this amazing day. Proposal and wedding with family and friends all in.
When I proposed to Kajette, It was so nerve wrecking because she would ask me questions and try to find out if and when I was going to propose. I recall one Sunday evening; she beckoned me to follow her to roof of our church in Brooklyn. She then questioned me on when I was going to propose and that she was tired of waiting. Little did she know that I just paid for plane tickets for my parents, bought the ring, set a date to talk with her parents and ordered flowers… For me, that was planning.
I applaud the faith the Duncan’s have for each other and their family. I am very happy for them and wish them the absolute best. I think if Alfred and Sherell Duncan continue on this path, they will be together forever. #foreverduncan
